Box Barge Cover: Purpose and Installation Procedure

Box Barge Cover: Purpose and Installation Procedure

The roof is one of the main elements of any building. Not only protection against precipitation depends on it, but also the appearance of the house. Modern roofing materials allow you to create practical and beautiful roofs near homes, spending a minimum of resources. One of these materials is metal. It is quite convenient to install, but requires the use of additional elements, among which the box barge cover for metal tiles.

Box barge cover: purpose and installation features

In order to cover the roof with metal roofing material, it is necessary to use several types of trims:

  • cornice;
  • end or wind;
  • ridge;
  • adjacency level for a metal tile .

All of them serve as additional protection for wooden roofing elements from the effects of adverse environmental factors, as well as for decorative purposes.

The box barge cover for a metal tile is made of galvanized metal, up to 0.55 mm thick. It comes in various colors, similar to the main roofing material. There are products with a polymer and composite coating. This roof element has a cross-sectional view of the corner. Its edges are slightly bent or there may be ribs on the plane. These nuances add extra rigidity to the product. The standard length of the strap is 2 m. Its fastening is carried out on the ends of the ramps, which protects the crate from moisture and wind. For this reason, this product is also called the wind bar for metal.

Installation of the box barge cover

  1. The length of the end of the ramp is measured and the number of whole slats is calculated. If necessary, the latter is cut to the desired length.
  2. Installation starts from the bottom of the ramp and goes up. In this case, the products are laid with an overlap of at least 50 mm.
  3. The horizontal part of the box barge cover for metal should completely overlap the roof ridge, and the vertical part should cover the battens from their ends.
  4. The element is fixed using roofing screws of the same color, both in the vertical plane and in the horizontal. At the same time, the screws are screwed on top strictly into the ridge of the metal tile. The distance between the screws should be 30 – 50 cm, and it is most convenient to screw them in with a screwdriver, starting from one side so that the bar does not warp.

Do not forget about sealing the gaps between the bar and the roofing. In addition to the protective function, the wind bar for metal tile also carries a decorative one. The roof decorated with this element has a more complete and harmonious look.

Useful advice! When fixing the plank with self-tapping screws, you must be very careful and not smear the battens on the board. If this happens, then in no case can the self-tapping screw be removed, since it closes the hole made.

In the process of roofing, great attention should be paid to safety. Stairs or scaffolding must be securely fastened and not be dangerous. It is most convenient to mount a wind bar for metal roofing from scaffolding installed along the pediment of the building. This will allow you to move freely along the entire length of the edge of the ramp. Before attaching the additional element, it is worthwhile to sew up the lower part of the crate hanging over the pediment, facing material. This will allow to avoid inconvenience in the future, since the installed bar can interfere with this process.

When installing the product, attention is paid to the alignment of both planes, since “waves” or “torsion” will not only reduce the protective functions of the element, but also spoil the entire appearance of the roof. Equal fastening can only be ensured by strictly following the installation rules and using measuring instruments.

Useful advice! The box barge cover for metal should be fastened with self-tapping screws with rubber washers “tightened”. This will not allow water to fall under it, and shake the wind, causing subsequently rattling sounds.

Other additional elements and their purpose

Among the other elements necessary for the installation of the roof , a ridge strip can be distinguished, which covers the ridge on top of the coating sheets. The cornice strip is similar to the box barge cover, but is mounted on the cornices before mounting the roof. Of particular interest is the abutment rail for metal, which is used at the joints of roofing sheets with walls, pipes, valleys or other roof elements. It is installed on top of a metal tile and does not allow water to get inside through adjacencies.

In conclusion, we can add that the need for additional elements must be calculated when purchasing material, so that all of them choose the same color with the metal tile.
