How to Choose a Hand Blender

Sauces, favorite cream soup, mashed potatoes, baby food – these dishes are easy to prepare if the kitchen has a faithful assistant: a hand blender. It does not take up much space, easy to maintain and handle. Before you go to the store for a hand blender, read our selection instructions.

What is the difference between a hand blender and mixer and combine

Many housewives refuse to buy a new blender, saying that they are used to dealing with a mixer or combine. But these devices have a different purpose. The mixer is needed for whipping and kneading, and the harvester, like the stationary blender, is more suitable for preparing complex dishes.

But if you want to quickly make mashed soup in the same pan where it has just been cooked, or to prepare a child one serving of a milkshake – a hand blender will be the best choice.

How to choose the power of a hand blender

Depending on the type of work that you plan to carry out with a blender, you need to choose its power. For example, a low-power blender of less than 300 watts will not do well with frozen fruits and vegetables. And if you plan to crush the ice, then you really need a blender power of more than 450 watts. Also, a powerful blender will save you time in preparing soft soups and sauces, because it will grind and mix faster. The best option is up to 800 watts (such a blender can handle even frozen meat).

A blender for all occasions is an option with adjustable power.

From 1 to 24 speeds have modern hand blenders. The presence of more speeds will allow you to independently configure the blender for the chopped ingredient.

Switching speeds is of two types – smooth and stepwise. Thanks to the smooth switching (usually pulsed, that is, changing from the effort to press the button), you can not only select the appropriate blade rotation speed, but also adjust the power during operation, this will be useful, for example mixing the dough.

What blender nozzles do i need?

The more nozzles that come with the hand blender, the more dishes you can cook. But do not forget that all of them require additional storage space. The submersible parts of the blender are made of stainless steel or plastic. Plastic parts are lighter and cheaper, but cannot boast of durability.

Basic nozzle “foot” – each hand blender is completed with this nozzle. It is usually made of metal or plastic and at the end has a knife-chopper protected by a cap (thanks to the cap, work with the blender becomes safe and splashing is reduced).

Some models are equipped with interchangeable knives, but usually the chopper knife does any job: chop vegetables, cook mincemeat or sauce, even mix a cocktail – you can use the base nozzle.

Whisk – similar to a complete set of the mixer and essentially perform similar functions for kneading the dough. They are drop-shaped and spiral.

Mill – is an additional bowl with an integrated chopper knife; in expanded sets there are several bowls of different sizes. It is convenient to chop nuts, grind coffee, make crackers for breading.

A vacuum pump and containers – will be needed to increase the storage time of products, as well as for vacuum pickling (for example, you can cook such an unusual dish as lamb tongues).

What is the difference between wired and wireless blender

Most blenders are powered by wire. Several years ago, battery powered wireless blenders appeared on the market. They solved the problem of free movement of housewives during cooking – now it has become possible to take a blender even with you for a picnic. But at the same time, weight and price of device increased.

The recharge time of the wireless blender is 3-4 hours, and it can work up to 30 minutes at low power.
