How to fix the toilet bowl yourself and how to negotiate with the “holder” of toilet paper?
To replace the toilet seat, you first need to unscrew the metal or plastic bolts and nuts by hand, without the use of special tools. Install the seat cover into the grooves of the toilet bowl screw the nuts on the bolts, then you need to move the structure a little forward (towards yourself) and tighten the nuts.
There are two mechanisms for a flush toilet bowl. The Old-style tank mechanism consists of a float, various levers, a pear, an overflow pipe and a shut-off valve. When the lever is pushed, the pear blocking the ingress of water into the toilet bowl rises and passes the water flow through the drain hole. After the tank is completely empty, the float remains at the bottom and opens the valve for filling new water. As soon as the desired level is reached, water stops flowing.
The modern water supply mechanism is made of plastic, equipped with an adjustable valve with a cylinder-shaped float, and the water release mechanism is equipped with a start button and a double drain valve, which has protection against overflow. After draining, water enters the tank through a valve with a cylindrical float until the valve blocks the water supply (valve in the up position – water is shut off, in the down position – water enters the tank). The water drainage mechanism works like this: after pressing the “Start” button, the valve rises, and water from the tank enters the toilet. After all the water has left the tank, the valve takes its place again – it lowers into the drain hole.
If the shutter button is broken, it is best to replace the drain mechanism of the toilet bowl with a new one. First of all, it is necessary to shut off the water using taps that can be in the bathroom, toilet or in the kitchen (the tap is perpendicular to the pipe – the water is shut off), if in this way it was not possible to shut off the water, after draining the water from the tank, shut off its supply at the water supply hose in the toilet. Unscrew the water supply hose and nut on the “Start” button, remove the tank cap and pull out the plastic drain mechanism, unscrew the nuts on the bottom of the drain tank that attach it to the toilet bowl, remove the drain tank from the toilet bowl and put it on its side, then unscrew the nut from the float device, remove it from the tank, unscrew the nut that secures the trigger.
Next, you need to install a new mechanism instead of the old one. First attach a nut with a gasket that fixes the trigger and is located outside the tank, screw it. Install the mechanism of the float device inside the tank and fix it with the nut located on the outside of the tank. After fixing both parts of the mechanism, install the drain tank on the toilet, fasten with two screws inside and out, screw the water supply hose to the float device, put the tank cover and the shutter button in place.
If a leak is detected, it means that somewhere the seal is broken. Water can leak out of the toilet tank through a gasket installed between the tank and the toilet itself, or through screw holes that connect the two parts of the toilet bowl. The gasket could move during installation or sag over time, and the screws are not tightened enough, and there is a backlash.
Drain the water from the tank, unscrew the water supply hose and remove the tank by unscrewing the two screws passing through the bottom of the tank and going out from the bottom of the toilet bowl.
After the separation of these parts of the toilet, the gasket responsible for the tightness must remain either on the tank or on the toilet. Remove the gasket and assess its condition. If the geometry of the gasket is broken, remove dirt and wipe dry the joints of the gasket with the tank and toilet bowl, correct the geometry of the gasket and reinstall it. Make sure that the gasket does not change its position during the assembly process. Install the drain tank and fasten with screws, connect water.
The problem of clogged toilet can be solved on their own and not wait for the plumber. If the cause of the blockage is not so serious, then a few buckets of very hot water will help. Also, blockage can be eliminated with the help of a plunger, which must be placed and pumped vigorously, trying to displace the resulting lump. You can resort to the help of modern means for cleaning sewer pipes.
If, for example, a rag or towel fell into the drain, put on rubber gloves and try to pull the item out by hand. If all else fails, you can push the blockage by a flexible plumbing cable. Slide the cable deep into the toilet so that it can reach the blockage, then turn it several times.
If none of the listed blockage remedies help, you should seek help from a plumber.
Holders for toilet paper come in different types and models, but most of them have 2 holes at the back, for which they hang on the wall. Dowels and screws are usually included with the holder.
Using a building level, draw a pencil with a point where the screws will be placed. Select the desired drill bit depending on the surface. Using a power tool, drill two holes of the required diameter, insert the dowels there, then screw the screws into them with a screwdriver or screwdriver and hang the holder.
