How to Paint a Room Yourself

Tools and materials needed

  2. The final paint.
  3. Roll brush.

  5. Large plastic sheeting.
  6. Paper adhesive.
  7. Fabric pieces.


Keep children and pets away from the workplace and painted walls until they dry completely o that they are not damaged by the strong smell of paint.


How to paint the walls yourself


1- Preparing for the painting process


First, you must clear the place you want to paint from the furniture, or at least move the furniture and keep it away from the walls to be painted, covering it with plastic covers to avoid exposing it to paint stains during the painting process.

Cover the floor with plastic sheeting, to protect the floor from dirt and to avoid doing more to remove stains on the floor.

You also need to remove accessories, electrical boxes and wooden shelves from the walls before you start painting. Any accessories that cannot be removed can be covered with a plastic cover and paper adhesive.

Paper adhesive can be used to cover adjacent surfaces, especially for edges, windows edges and wooden doors.

Finally, clean the wall with a cloth dampened in water by gently wiping it without submerging it in water, and then let it dry.

2- The initial paint


It is advised to start with the primer paint to help stick to the final paint to be painted, and is useful when you want to paint a dark surface with a light color. White is preferred for any coating process.

Use a roller brush to apply the paint to the wall, the foundation should not be too thick. Make sure to cover all areas with an even coat of paint.

Use a paint brush to fill in easily accessible gaps and angles. Try leveling and straightening the paint in multiple directions.

Allow the surface to dry for at least 4 hours.


3- Final paint


Choose the type of paint you want, making sure to buy enough walls for the walls to be painted. Read the article “Types of wall paint” for more details.

Mix the paint well (with a piece of wood) before starting to use it.

Begin by brushing the ends with a manual brush, by dipping the butterfly with paint and leaving it to dripping excess paint, then comb the paint on the walls, starting with the edges of the top and bottom walls.

Use a roller butterfly to paint the rest of the wall, preferably by applying the “M” or “W” paint back and forth.

Leave the surface to dry for 2-4 hours.

Create another layer of paint, depending on how deep the new color you want to get.

Allow the paint to dry overnight, sometimes the interior wall may take 24 to 48 hours. Make sure to stay away from touching the wall during that time, or expose it to airborne dust. Remove the tape when finished.
