The basis of non-woven wallpaper is a non-woven material made of cellulose and textile fibers (viscose, acrylic, etc.), as well as a binder. Interestingly, long cellulose fibers (over 20 mm) are used for the production of interlining, and short ones for paper. However, unlike paper wallpapers, non-woven wallpapers do not stretch when wet, and do not shrink when dry. In addition, their canvases are very tear-resistant and can even inhibit the formation of microcracks on the bases of walls and ceilings.
For the manufacture of wallpaper non-woven fabric of different density is used: from 60 to 150 g / m². Obviously: the higher the density of the material, the more durable it is. For living quarters of apartments, wallpaper with a density of 85–90 g / m² is suitable, and for kitchens and hallways it is better to choose denser products.
Hung non-woven wallpaper
It is much easier and faster to glue non-woven wallpapers and canvases on a non-woven backing than paper or paper backed. They fit perfectly on plastered and putty surfaces, walls made of concrete and drywall, paper. Moreover, the adhesive solution is applied directly to the base, after which a dry cloth cut to size is applied to it. It is not difficult to check if there is enough adhesive on the wall. After the master has covered a section of the wall with glue with a roller and rolled it out in an even layer, try drawing a pattern on it. If it works, then there is enough glue.
Keep in mind: a lack of it threatens the wallpaper peeling, and an excess can cause it to exit along the borders of the joint of the canvases, which is fraught with the appearance of stains in these places. It is not difficult to remove the glue immediately, while it is liquid, with a cloth or sponge, abundantly moistened with water. But craftsmen, accustomed to working with vinyl wallpaper, may leave it for later or simply not notice transparent stains.
From the surface of vinyl wallpaper, they can be easily washed off with soapy water, even the next day. Whereas the glue, frozen on the front side of the non-woven fabric, cannot be removed after a day. You need to act immediately and not be afraid to use a lot of water. It will dry without harming the wallpaper, and the glue solution will be completely washed off.
Note that the mass of non-woven wallpaper is usually more than paper. Therefore, special adhesives are produced to work with them…. They are available in the assortment of all major adhesive manufacturers. By the way, if you choose two-layer non-woven wallpaper, then at the next repair the decorative layer can be easily removed, even without additional soaking.
The bottom layer left on the wall can form the basis for other wallpapers. Of course, if during operation it remains dry, clean and not deformed. But first, it should be primed. After the primer has dried, wallpaper canvases are glued over the non-woven fabric.
